It breaks my heart to even have to write a post like this. I must confess, I have certainly been critical of others, in similar circumstances, in the passed. I ...now employee a better and more compassionate understanding. Bear is a kind soul. Friendly to every one. Loves other dogs. He has been a companion to my 18 year old autistic sister for his entire life. He is 11, will be 12 this year. My family, in westhampton, no longer has the resources necessary to provide him with the life that he deserves. It has been tough times for them. And the love and affection that he needs in his life, is not available in his current circumstances. We want to save him from his final years being filled with neglect and torment. Courtney and I have discussed this issue at great lengths, as I have with my siblings. And if it were an option, we would not hesitate to have this sweet being retire with us. Eating good food. Going for walks. Running the beach. getting the routine grooming, and sleeping on couches. We live in a small, two story cottage, our landlord was kind enough to make an exception on their no pets policy, for Odin, because they felt we were responsible dog owners. But it wouldn’t be fair to take the mile when we were so generously given an inch. Beau is one, Courtney is 7 months pregnant. Odin is a high maintenance dog (energetically), we don’t have a fenced in yard, Bear is a runner. (Some of the reasons this is not an option for our family, at this time...which furthers the heart break) For the time being, we will foster him. But we are looking to achieve some form of suitable retirement for this bowl of mash potatoes. A home with no children. A walk a day. A comfy couch. And pets and head pats and treats.
