The AT runs through Fahnestock. Conserving more of this park is a good example of executing on the large landscape protection programs at ATC and its partners. Michelle D. Smith, Executive Director, Hudson Highlands Land Trust, has this to say: These additions to State Parks could not come at a better time, as demand for our parks has reached historic highs during the pandemic. We are grateful to Governor Cuomo, State Parks, and the state and federal funding making possible this addition to Fahnestock, with much needed new trails and access points. The addition also protects valuable forest habitat and water resources in the corridor between our Granite Mountain Preserve in Putnam Valley and Fahnestock State Park."

The Accelerating Veterans Recovery Outdoors Act unanimously passed by the Senate and the House. Thank you Sen. Corez-Masto and Rep. Smith for sponsoring the bill. Thank you Sierra Club, Sierra Club Military Outdoors, Rob Vessels, Aaron Leonard and the thousands who signed on to make this happen. We’ve long known that the outdoors can be a powerful place for physical and mental healing, said Rob Vessels, Sierra Club Military Outdoors campaign manager. For many veterans, t...he trauma they experienced during their military service, both visible and invisible, does not disappear once their time in service ends. By identifying and eliminating barriers for veterans to access public lands, the Accelerating Veterans Recovery Act will ensure that veterans can heal on the landscapes they served to protect, and we thank Sen. Cortez Masto for her support. Thank you Rep. Smith for sponsoring the bill in the House, passed September 23, 2020.
