WE DID IT! Thank you all for "liking" the Comfort House of Allegany County in the recent contest sponsored by Siemens Energy. We received $5,000! The press release says in part, "On this national day of service, Martine Luther King Day, it's important to recognize the value of serving in the places where we live and work; these organizations demonstrate service to to their respective communities today and every day." This is so true of the Comfort House and all we embod...y, true service to our residents and families, and our communities. I'm sad to report that COVID- 19 has derailed the Annual Basket Raffle to profit the Hart Comfort House. This event is usually held on the first Saturday in February, at the Trinity Lutheran Church. Barb Lanphier started this fundraiser many years ago, and along with her family and help from many others, have raised several thousand dollars for the Hart Comfort House. We are so appreciative of the support of the community, the businesses who donate gifts, and the people who spend time making items for the event. This event enables us to meet and greet our supporters, and to thank them for all they do. While we are saddened to not have this raffle this, we will be back next year. Stay safe, healthy, and thank you all for your support.

Today is the beginning of the 10th year of operation of the Hart Comfort House! Ten years ago we accepted our first resident. What a ride it has been. Over these past 9 years we have cared for 216 people and their families. We comfort them, care for them, laugh and cry with them. Normally on this day we celebrate our successes; we celebrate our volunteers, over 300 of them! Without the volunteers this house would not exist. The good will, the care and the passion the ...volunteers bring to our house and community is beyond anything I have ever seen. Unfortunately, this year we are unable to gather to celebrate because of COVID-19, but rest assured we are so grateful for them and all they do. Thank you to all and we hope to see you soon! The staff and volunteers, along with the Board of Directors wish every one a very Merry Christmas and hope for a happy, healthy New Year. This year has been so difficult for so many of us, yet we look ahead to the celebration of the birth of Jesus and the hope that he will bring us. God Bless You All

Good Morning, I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving and were able to spend a quiet day! As you know, the Comfort House of Allegany County, a.k.a. the Hart House, is in a contest sponsored by Siemans Energy (formerly Dresser-Rand), to win possibly up to $10,000. When this contest started, we were doing well, but as time goes on, the vote count has slowed down. The current leader is a company, TRS, from Harris County, TX, has a population of 4 million, the 3rd most populou...s in the US., as of today they were over 70,000. We are seemingly stuck at 30,000. Also in the Houston suburbs is a charity for Down’s Syndrome that has 16,000 as of today. The rules of the contest state: The charities with the most votes will be in the running to receive donations of up to $10,000. A judging panel will review the voting results, and based on the scope of services, which charities will receive a donation, and how much the donation will be.
