For those who love the arts, here is an entertaining, brilliant video "From Page to Stage" that explains the behind-the-scenes work of the many people and talents it takes to even bring just ONE costume to the stage! Many hands, many voices. You will never take costume industry workers for granted again - it is indeed a group effort to produce beauty on Broadway! Please support the Costume Industry Coalition.
There appears to be a social media challenge on Instagram this October called #FallForCostume hosted by Cynthia Settje of Redthreaded. Every day is a new theme. Not to be left out (alas we missed the "vintage" challenge two days ago!!!) today's theme is metallic so we thought we would post one of our authentic 1920s all sequinned sparkly dresses! ( this way we sneak in the vintage theme! )
We are so excited about the coming preview of Netflix' "Ma Rainey's Black Bottom" starring Viola David and the late Chadwick Boseman. Perhaps we will recognize some of the 147 1920s dresses (and multiple other garments, hats and accessories) we rented to the production!
We costume shops all miss working on period projects. We get nostalgic thinking about past fittings. Here are some past fitting photos for Victorian and Edwardian projects, all authentic antique pieces. We chose views from the back to give the actors a bit of anonymity ( oh, those front views are killer!) Enjoy!
For those who miss Broadway, support the work of our Costume Industry Coalition and hope that support of the arts will save our tenuous industry.
Apropos of our political climate , this coming Netflix show we worked on could not be more germaine about the trial (all seven were eventually acquitted) following the allegedly violent demonstrations against involvement in the Vietnam War at the 1968 Democratic Convention. Presenting "The Trial of the Chicago 7"
If you donate by Friday your tax deductible donation will be matched dollar for dollar up to $100,000.! Please support the costume industry so that Costume Industry Coalition members in need continue to pay bills until Broadway opens its doors again and they can welcome back their staff and work! We don't want to lose our talented artisans and magical costume creators! Where would shows be without them?
Thank you, Glenn Close for supporting the Costume Industry Coalition! Speaking for Uffner Vintage, we have been honored to work with you on numerous TV and features films!
The majority of the entertainment industry remains closed. Federal relief has stalled. The @CostumeIndustryCoalition (CIC)’s Members are without sustainable income for the foreseeable future, as orders have been cancelled or delayed indefinitely. Our businesses and the future of #NYCCostumeIndustry is in jeopardy. Please donate, if you can, and share with friends and family. Link for the CIC’s Donate page: https://www.costumeindustrycoalition.com/donate There you can learn m...ore about this enormous fundraising effort, keep track of our progress and news, and make a donation if you’re able. #SaveTheCostumeIndustry . . . #costumeindustrycoalition #costumeshop #costumes #CICNY #CICNewYork #CICReliefFund #costume #costumeindustry #design #garmentdistrict #artist #costumeindustryartists #CICArtists #costumemaker #maker #madeinny #madeinnyc #custommade #broadway #tv #film #handmade #nycgarmentdistrict #artisans #craftspeople See more
Keep the momentum going!!
Watching much streaming TV these days? Reliving some great Broadway shows in your mind? You can be certain that a great percentage of the costumes in both the Broadway shows and TV series were made by our New York costume shops and vintage pieces were rented by Helen Uffner Vintage Clothing, ALL CIC members.. Just HUVC’s clothes alone now on TV are The Hunt, Mrs, Maisel, I Know this Much is True, The Plot Against America, The Food That Built America, Tesla and Perry Mason. The Costume Industry Coalition needs your help to survive. Without these CIC members, the emperor will LITERALLY have no clothes. If you can't give, please help spread the word.
Roger Clark from NY1 TV station just posted his new profile picture! Hmmmm...familiar? YES!!! It is OUR place, when he came to do an interview a few years ago. We had fun dressing him in vintage! Such a nice guy!
