Recently, my colleagues joined me in requesting to leaders in the Assembly and Senate that the hunting age be lowered and that we allow licensed hunters to use... their Crossbow during the entire regular bow season. These measures are supported by the DEC and the Governor. We should pass them immediately. See more

Hunting friends and family! I am so incredibly blessed to know such a wonderful human being who is helping out our family in these hard times we are facing. Min...dy Halsey-James is the owner of WHA (definitely check out the page is you haven't already) and every year they do an amazing raffle full of everything you can think of relating to hunting and outdoor sports! Here is some info if you are interested! "Ok everyone: DONT say I didn’t prepare you! This is going to be a huge raffle. The prizes that have been donated to benefit this family are insane. Let’s just say there are some awesome companies and individuals coming together with WHA (Wildlife Hunters Association: right here on FB) to raise money for Kevin McKeon. Tickets will go on sale mid next week. I want you all to become familiar with whom we are raising money for this year I am blessed to know these people. I can’t wait to show them the power of our hunting community! Anyone locally may purchase tickets through us starting next week too." Here is some information on why they are raising money for my amazing father. My Dad was a Wayne County Sheriff for 8 years where he met my Mom, who also worked for the sheriff's dept. He then had the opportunity to transfer to Greece Police Department where he turned in 20 years. He was a Technician for the last 10 years. He was also a full time Apple farmer while being a full time police officer. He then retired, and we all planned on moving to FL. While in the middle of selling their house this past August, he was diagnosed with what they thought was a sinus infection. He was put on antibiotics, but he wasn't getting any better. At the end of August, he collapsed and had a seizure in their front yard. He then was transported to Newark Hospital where they diagnosed him with Glioblastoma. Its an aggressive tumor in the brain and unfortunately his can't be taken out. So we started the long journey of radiation and chemo therapy. He has been doing his chemo, he has to do 5 days each month till the doctors know more information. He also has to wear a wire helmet device called a Optune. He has to wear this for 3 days, then he gets a 6 hour break, then has to wear it for another 3 days, 6 hours off, so on and so forth. This device costs $20,000 a month, fortunately they only have to pay about $200 a month for it because insurance covers most of it. But medical bills are stacking up. On top of that, they had to go through with the sale of their home, so the only option available to them was to build a new home on some property we own. The cost of building a house right now is astronomical..... He is doing very well through all of it though, he has trouble with getting dizzy and his thinking is disrupted sometimes. He also has lost his short term memory in most situations. The chemo has knocked him down a couple times as well. He got set back a ways a couple weeks ago, but he has gathered his strength for the most part, and recovered from that round. His docs are optimistic and because of his good health, he will do well and hopefully go into remission. He has been a hunter for most of his life, teaching me and my brother (who we unfortunately lost in 2008 while in the Air Force) his hunting techniques and responsibilities. He and I also own a small local European Mount business. Trophy Traditions Taxidermy. Current Update: So a little update... my Dad had his mri yesterday and tumor grew a little bit. Because of this news, he no longer has to wear the optune (which annoyed the crap out of him anyways!). We are still full of hope that he will kick cancers ass and live a very long happy life. If you have any further questions feel free to message me or Mindy!
