VOLUNTEERS:: Here at the LGLC, our volunteers are the backbone of what we do every day. These people help us to organize fundraisers, assemble mailings, plant trees, lead walks, remove invasives, build bridges, search for HWA; they sit on Committees, ask the hard questions, provide valuable input and most importantly, they donate their time, their knowledge and their passion for the lands and waters of Lake George. FAMILY FRIENDLY:: Development Manager Helen and her family recently hiked Record Hill at our Anthony's Nose Preserve, which always offers amazing views of the land and the lake. This preserve was purchased in 2000 and includes 3,550 feet of lake shoreline and sensitive habitat for threatened Peregrine falcons, who nest in the cliffs. HWA FOUND:: During an inspection of Dome Island on Friday, the LGLC and New York State Hemlock Initiative staff, led by Mark Whitmore, found HWA among several trees on the island. The LGLC, NYS Hemlock Initiative, Adirondack Park Invasive Plant Program (APPIP), NYS Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC), The Nature Conservancy/ The Nature Conservancy in New York (TNC) and our partners in the region are working together to determine the best course of action that’s in... line with the coordinated effort already underway to control the spread of this invasive species. We are saddened by the passing of Alex Levitch. He led a rich and full life and did a great deal for the lake. As a camper at Adirondack Camp, Alex enjoyed the wonders that the lake had to offer. He then purchased and ran the camp for over 40 years so that future generations could experience and explore the lake as he did. Alex helped the LGLC to complete the LGSL project, protecting over 350 acres and 1 mile of shorefront.
