We would like to extend our deepest appreciation to Mrs. Lea Malek. This morning, Mrs. Malek offered our 3-8th grade students an opportunity to learn from her ...story of survival during and after the Holocaust. Mrs. Malek spoke to us after our full-school morning service. Our entire student body prayed with Rabbi Avi and stood in silence as we listened to the air raid sirens, on this day when Israel and our school come to a standstill in remembrance of Holocaust victims. After our 8th graders held a candle lighting service and shared the film The Children of Chabannes, about a town of righteous individuals, with their middle school peers. As we remember those who were murdered and whose lives were forever altered this Yom HaShoah, we take the time to remind ourselves of our personal responsibilities to share Mrs. Malek’s story and the stories of all of the Jews and individuals who both died and survived the horrors of the Holocaust. Our children are their victories,; the blessings that they offer us. Our Hillel students and our community are charged with ensuring that the Holocaust is remembered, the memories kept, and that we assume the mission to serve as a driving force in ensuring that these legacies and stories live on from our generation to the next.
We observed this Yom HaShoah and Holocaust Remembrance Day with age appropriate programming for all students. We were honored to host Ms. Lea Malek during our morning meeting for a special program and to hear her story. Rabbi Avi and the 8th Graders also led a service of remembrance for the entire school. #neveragain #yomhashoah #dayofremembrance
