Congratulations to our NSSLHA advocacy students for their acceptance to the 2021 CAPCSD Virtual Conference for their submission of Supporting a Culturally and Linguistically Diverse CSD Student Community at Hofstra University. Congrats again to our hardworking and dedicated undergraduate students: Julie Grzybowski, Ashley McDonough, Mason Pfender, Erin Kim, and Gabriella Polito and the advisement of Professor DeMetropolis. We look forward to expanding the work next semester!
Dr. Bonaventura is presenting her poster "Influence of prosody on acquisition of anticipatory coarticulation in Italian-speaking children" today at 1:50pm-2:35pm at the Acoustical Society of America 179th Conference: "Acoustics Virtually Everywhere" https://acousticalsociety.org/overview-ave/ Good luck and congratulations, Dr. Bonaventura!
We are saddened to hear of the passing of Patrick Quinn Jr., at age 37 from ALS. Pat was a true warrior and an inspiration to so many including our students in the SLHS department at Hofstra University. He participated in Dr. Deshpande’s audiology debate and attended Professors Asofosky and DeMetropolis’ courses on motor-speech disorders. Pat communicated to us about various topics including living with ALS, the Ice Bucket Challenge, apps in healthcare, and using his AAC device. He always left the students with powerful takeaways and insight into working with patients. We will always remember his kind, witty, and authentic messages. Thank you again Pat for making us all better individuals. You will be deeply missed.
Thank you to our audiologists, Drs. Curdicia Gilbert, Shruti Deshpande, and Ianthe Dunn-Murad, and our speech-language pathologists, Nia Thomas, Ndeye N’Diaye, and Ramani Voleti for sharing their insight and stories on multiculturalism, diversity, and cultural competencies at our NSSLHA meeting today. Also, thanks to our student advocates, Ashley McDonough, Julie Grzybowski, Mason Pflender, Gabby Polito, and Erin Kim for organizing and researching on these various topics to have an informative and enriching event.
Join us next Wednesday, November 11th at 11:30 a.m. for the Student Advocacy Group Multicultural & Diversity Workshop being hosted by NSSHLA! Register now for this wonderful event! Register here: http://ow.ly/NVQL50CbF1c
