A substance use disorder (SUD) is a mental disorder that affects a person’s brain and behavior, leading to a person’s inability to control their use of substanc...es such as legal or illegal drugs, alcohol, or medications. Researchers have found that about half of individuals who experience a SUD during their lives will also experience a co-occurring mental disorder and vice versa. Hudson Ridge is seeking to establish a specialty hospital to treat persons suffering from substance use disorders on the 20 acre site of a former hospital located in Croton-on Hudson. On July 31, 2015, Town Supervisor Linda Puglisi replied to an email from one of the opponents and stated, I will do everything I can to not only mitigate it, but to fight it as well. That was almost 6 years ago. We are tired of seeing loved ones in the Town of Cortlandt and surrounding areas... lose their battle with the disease of addiction. This project is to simply re-use existing buildings. No new construction plus additional tax revenue to the town without adding children to schools. End the Stigma. End the Roadblocks. #recovery #hope

Over 6 years ago Hudson Ridge Wellness Center approached the Town of Cortlandt with the concept of re-using the existing Hudson Institute site for a specialty hospital serving those suffering from addiction to drugs and alcohol. While the initial reception from the Town was positive, once an application was submitted and a few neighbors voiced concerns, there have been nothing but roadblocks for over six years. This project will re-use and not build upon the beautiful prop...erty; preserving open space in the Town. This campus has always been an institutional use. The application is to RE-USE the existing buildings. By working with the Town staff for over a year we were able to alleviate all water and traffic concerns confirmed by several experts in each field of study. It’s a shame this application has been delayed this long, but we ask you to please do the right thing and support this much-needed facility. It takes a community to be part of the solution. We believe the proposed specialty hospital will provide a significant amount of benefits to the town and surrounding communities. Our community needs your immediate help in this matter. Let’s stop the stigma of recovery. As you are aware, the statistics are overwhelming that we have an opioid crisis in our community, state, and country. The Town should be the most supportive of this hospital. While this application has been delayed, hundreds have died. We need to promote hope and recovery. How can anyone be against helping the sick and suffering? It is time to remove the roadblocks to recovery, we need your help to save our families. See more
