HVFE completed new graphics this week for Ulster Hose #5. This unit, a 2008 Seagrave 100' 500# rear mount was purchased from McKinley, PA. The cab was wet sanded and polished to remove the old graphics. The sign boards were removed, repainted and new graphics applied. The green accent stripe on the white reflective was removed and a black reflective stripe was applied to match Ulster's fleet. All of the gold leaf was hand laid on the cab. ... On Monday December 7th the Purchase Fire Department Apparatus Committee performed the final inspection of our 2020 Seagrave Pumper. Our committee decided not to... travel to Clintonville, Wisconsin for the inspection due to COVID-19. We instead chose a web based video conference to review our apparatus Members spent the afternoon with Hudson Valley Fire Equipment and Seagrave Fire Apparatus to ensure our specifications were met. The Kitchen Table To many, a kitchen table is just another piece of furniture in the home. It is typically sat at a few times a day for a quick meal and then ba...ck to the rest of the house. Not much pride is taken in its appearance and they certainly aren’t decorated to each family. The fire service treats the kitchen table as the heart of the firehouse. It is a place where members break bread. Firehouse meals can be famous or infamous depending on who the chef is. The kitchen table is a great place to talk shop after incidents and training to hear how firefighters could improve their operation. Most importantly, it is a place where members build camaraderie and discuss things going on in their life. The design of the table is also crucial. This gives the personal touch to each table that represents its members. The live-in and bunk-in members knew that a new table would be needed with the opening of our addition. It all started with the purchase of a 4 x 10 maple table. Then ideas for design were discussed and we decided to keep it classy and simple. Having the gold leaf ‘PFD’ monogram at the center of the table seemed fitting as it is a long standing symbol of our department. This table is a long time coming for our department. We would like to thank the members that made this possible and took the initiative. We couldn’t be happier with the results. The Purchase Fire Department would also like to thank Hudson Valley Fire Equipment, LLC for their generous donation of the graphics to this project. Ellen Curro and Forrest Hills took the time to come down and personally apply the gold leaf and vinyl graphics themselves. Thanks HVFE and we look forward to the final inspection of our 2020 Seagrave Pumper next week!
