Lupinacci Announces Launch of Senior Pen Pal Program to Help Vulnerable Residents Beat the Quarantine Blues Huntington Supervisor Chad A. Lupinacci announced the Town of Huntington Senior Center’s new Senior Pen Pal program, designed to lift spirits and help avoid the feeling of isolation for residents who may be stuck at home longer than the general public. The Town’s Senior Center has been closed since March 13. Usually, it is the Senior Center that brings people togethe...r but we’ve had to adjust the way we do just about everything recently, said Supervisor Chad A. Lupinacci. I am excited to announce we are launching Senior Pen Pals to help our seniors and residents stay connected during this time at home, an opportunity for our younger residents to learn from the wisdom of their elders, for seniors to connect with other seniors and share their experiences, while helping our most vulnerable residents stay upbeat and avoid feeling isolated during this difficult time. Seniors who wish to participate, should call the Senior Center at (631) 351-3253, email [email protected], or send a letter to the Senior Center to provide their name and mailing address. Residents who wish to participate can write a letter to a senior and mail it to: Town of Huntington Senior Center 423 Park Avenue Huntington, NY 11743 Senior Center staff will match Town of Huntington residents of all ages with seniors for a traditional letter-writing correspondence. The Town of Huntington Senior Center team has delivered approximately 2,300 meals weekly and continued essential residential repair and in-home services, adult day care support services and telephone reassurance throughout the entire shutdown. The Senior Center staff is just a phone call away at (631) 351-3253. HART Bus Passengers Mandated by Governor to Wear Face Masks http://www.huntingtonny.gov/news/?FeedID=4396 Huntington Minutes after Supervisor Chad A. Lupinacci urged riders of the Town’s Huntington Area Rapid Transit (HART) Bus system wear face masks or other face coverings when riding as a passenger starting on April 15, Governor Cuomo announced an Executive Order mandating all mass transit riders to wear face masks. Due to the Governor’s mandate, residents will not be abl...e to ride HART buses without a proper face covering. Do-it-yourself instructions on making a face mask, including sew and no-sew instructions, can be found on the Town’s website. http://www.huntingtonny.gov//DIY-cloth-face-covering-instr Residents are urged to avoid riding HART buses if presenting symptoms or if they meet any of the criteria for exposure; passengers will be denied service if they exhibit any symptoms known to be related to COVID-19. While HART Fixed Route and Paratransit service are operational, HART buses should only be used for essential travel. Since early March 2020, more frequent cleaning and sanitizing efforts have been made to cover the full fleet every 72 hours. This includes but is not limited to cleaning and sanitizing all hard surfaces, such as poles, grabrails, fareboxes and door control panels between passengers on an as-needed basis. Residents may reach HART at (631) 427-8287 or by email at [email protected]. ###
