Another visiting aircraft we’ve seen several times over the years at KROC is the Royal Canadian Air Force CF-188 (CF-18) Hornet. These visitors from the North always turn heads when they’re in town, and are just one of several types of Canadian aircraft we have seen here. This photo is of a transient 2-seater taking off from runway 22 back in 2011. #airportfirefighter #airportfire #rochesterairport #iaff #iaff1636 #rocairport #unionfirefighters #nyspffa #airportfirefighters #arff #cfr #roc #unionstrong #union #aircraftfirefighting #cf18 #cf188 #cf18hornet #cf188b #hornet #fa18hornet #autumn #kroc

Five of our newest members are going through a Basic Aircraft Rescue & Fire Fighting class this week and conducted night burns last night. This forty hour specialized aircraft firefighting course provides aircraft firefighters the skills and knowledge required by NFPA 1003 Airport FireFighter. The classroom presentations cover airport and aircraft familiarization, apparatus operation, airport infrastructures, chemistry of fire, foam systems, Incident Management System (IMS), and tactical considerations in fire suppression operations. The hands-on training consists of apparatus operation, rescue and evacuation techniques, application of firefighting foams and the safe use of firefighting tools and appliances during live fire scenarios. Last week, California joined Colorado, New Hampshire, New York and Washington in banning the manufacture, sale and use of firefighting foam containing PFAS. Our members face the health risks associated with PFAS every day due to the gear we wear and the foam we use to combat fuel fires. More must be done to get fluorine-free foams to the Firefighters that protect airports around the country sooner than 2024. https://www.ewg.org//california-law-bans-toxic-pfas-firefi
