#OldLivesMatter: A wordwide campaign against ageism Prepare your future, fight ageism On May 25th, the whole world, up in arms about George Floyd, the African-American man who died of suffocation during his arrest by the police in Minneapolis, united to fight against anti-black racism with a slogan, "#BlackLivesMatter."... 4 months later, the COVID-19 pandemic affects all nations, without distinction; populations of 65 and over are suffering its highest burden (92% mortality in France, 90% in Sweden, 89% in the United Kingdom). And as the 20th Anniversary of the rights of the elderly in the European Charter are celebrated, the XX Society of Geriatrics and Gerontology with the support of 42 other organizations from 29 different countries is launching the slogan "#OldLivesMatter" to fight against anti-old racism and raise awareness among citizens, media and institutions. At the initiative of the French Society of Geriatrics and Gerontology (SFGG), 42 organisations from 29 different countries are mobilising to denounce and combat ageism and discrimination against older people. Available in 7 languages, 3 videos directed by Jean-Paul Lilienfeld, director of the film "La Journée de la Jupe" (2008) with Isabelle Adjani who received the César, show 3 situations in everyday life where ageism, this contempt for age, takes the form of ordinary and universal racism. In a society where racism, sexism and homophobia are the subject of constant debate, ageism is so deep that it is now normalized. Because being "old" is not a defect. Because we are all someone's old. Because if all goes well, one day in the future we will be old Case 1 (sexism): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wYRWxitVgew&feature=youtu.be Case 2 (homophobia): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kqt2imILLtU&feature=youtu.be Case 3 (racism): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eo9TP3wwz_I&feature=youtu.be
