Please join us in congratulating Dr. Dania Goodin for being named Resident of the Month for February 2021. Service to Peers/Patients: "Dr. Goodin never ceases to amaze me with her intelligence, compassion, and dedication to her work. Even in her most clinically challenging cases, she takes time to explain to the patient healthcare team exactly what's going on every step of the way. She's stayed late after shift countless times to close the loop with patient's families and loved ones as well as assist her co-residents when we get the common shift-change code or trauma. She displays a resilience and grace that is unparalleled in our residency." https://mshs.co/mi

Dr. Mary Fowkes, a neuropathologist, joined us on the Real, Smart People Podcast last year. Early in the pandemic, when little was known about the SARS-CoV-2 virus, Dr. Fowkes volunteered to perform autopsies on #COVID19 victims. Wearing a full-body protective suit and often working alone, she painstakingly examined the impact of the virus on the brain. What she and her team found shocked hersignificant blood clots in the brain and vital organs. The discovery led to the increased use of blood thinners in COVID-19 patients. A new study published in the journal Nature by researchers at Mount Sinai in collaboration with two other labs describes for the first time a persistence of SARS-CoV-2 in the intestines long after clinical resolution. The study, entitled Evolution of antibody immunity to SARS-Cov-2, suggests that the memory B cell response to SARS-Cov-2 evolves between 1.3 and 6.2 months after infection in a manner that is consistent with antigen persistence. This finding is significant because it suggests that the memory B cell response does not wane after six months, providing reassurance that those who have previously been infected with the virus will likely mount a vigorous response if they are exposed a second time, says study author Dr. Saurabh Mehandru: https://mshs.co/ki #COVID19 #Research #MountSinaiToday
