Indian River Central School District was informed today by Lewis County Public Health of a positive case of COVID-19 affecting a staff member at Evans Mills Pri...mary School. Due to the potential impact on staff and students, the Evans Mills Primary School will pivot to full-remote instruction for Monday, December 7th and Tuesday, December 8th. This includes Cohorts A and Z. (Details will be communicated by the EMPS administration and classroom teachers.) Following this two day remote learning period, a decision will be made with regard to a return to in person learning. COVID-19 Mass Testing Event December 7-8, 2020 Samaritan Medical Center, Carthage Area Hospital, Jefferson County Public Health, and the New York State Departme...nt of Health (NYS DOH) are hosting a community-wide COVID-19 mass testing event on Monday, December 7th and Tuesday, December 8th. Collectively, these organizations hope to test as many community members as possible in these two days. This testing event will help determine the community spread of COVID-19 following the Thanksgiving holiday. Anyone who is concerned about their level of exposure should take this opportunity to protect themselves and their family members. Knowing the volume of new positive cases will help slow the spread as community members are asked to quarantine and take precautions. Impact Aid (funding for schools associated with federal/military properties) makes up 20% of Indian River's anticipated funding for this year and is critical to our ability to provide the quality education we have come to expect. This funding is used to provide services to all Indian River students, not just military-connected students, and helps us maintain essential programming, personnel, and facilities to help meet the high demands of modern education.
