EXCERPT: Councilwoman Cumbo, however, said the Sex Ed Task Force would provide a much-needed extra set of eyes on sex education in the city. She is optimistic... that the bill will pass. My goal is to continue to do this work until H.I.V. and AIDS and healthy relationships and reproductive health are taken as seriously as biology, chemistry and mathematics, she said. Getting ready to rock it with our girl Amber who is preforming at DYCD Youth Connect #RHYOPENMIC. Let your voice be heard:)
The wording of the DOE sexual health requirement is intentionally vague, as was noted when it was first introduced a few years ago. Although the DOE recommends Health Smart and Reducing the Risk, neither is required. Since it is so open to interpretation a school could spend a class period on the benefits of abstinence and satisfy the requirement. It's important that we know what we're working with if we're going to try to improve it.
Discussing strategies on how to communicate with our children and give them the space to discuss their emotional hurt.
We are so proud of being a part of The National Crittenton family! Thank you for your amazing support and highlighting one of our own:)
NYC does NOT have comprehensive sex ed in grades K-12 as recommended by national standards. It’s time to take #SexEdAction to NYC! Knowledge is power. Let’s arm our youth with knowledge so they can make informed & healthier decisions about their relationships.
We're taking #SexEdAction! Join us at City Hall on Tuesday at 10 a.m. for a press conference on sex ed in NYC!
Just a sneak peek to the amazing event we had yesterday! More photos to come:)
Education is key to Prevention. Kudos!
