RICKY NELSON - HELLO MARY LOU (in colour) On this date in 1961, RICKY NELSON released the single TRVALIN' MAN/HELLO MARY LOU (April 9th 1961) I've colourised th...e clips of Ricky performing HELLO MARY LOU from the original black and white films. Written by Gene Pitney and first recorded by Johnny Duncan in 1960, HELLO MARY LOU was recorded by Ricky Nelson a year later. Ricky Nelson's version, issued as the B-side of his No. 1 hit "Travelin' Man", (Imperial 5741), reached No. 9 on the Billboard music charts on May 28, 1961. In the UK, where it was released as an A-side (with "Travelin' Man" as the B-side), it reached No. 2. ----------------------------------------- Hello, and a warm welcome to COLOURING THE PAST. Running the page is a one-man operation. I write and research the articles, and edit the videos which involves several hours of work - upscaling, colourising and tweaking in various software. If you could see fit to make a small donation then it would help me to keep the page running. Thank you and best wishes, Paul Just visit one of the links to donate (all secure connections): PAYPAL: https://www.paypal.me/decade7787 JUSTGIVING: https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/ctp ----------------------------------------- The song featured an influential guitar solo by James Burton. Piano was by Ray Johnson, who had succeeded Gene Garf as Nelson's regular session pianist in November 1959. Other musicians on the record included Joe Osborn on bass and Ritchie Frost on drums. The song appeared on Nelson's sixth album Rick Is 21.
