Last week, the author Marguerite Abouet visited our French 4th and 5th Graders to talk about her life story and her graphic novel series, "Akissi." The "Akissi" series, now on its tenth volume, takes readers on hilarious adventures with the mischievous but lovable Akissi, a character inspired by the author’s own childhood in Ivory Coast. She then read one of her stories aloud, specially selected by a student who is a frequent "Akissi" reader. The students had a blast learning... about Marguerite’s work as a writer, as well as about her childhood . Students’ questions included: Why did you want to write this book and what inspires you? Why did you decide to write a comic book instead of a chapter book for example? Marguerite’s thoughtful and funny responses elicited many laughs. Following Marguerite's visit, students immediately placed holds on all of our library copies of her books! See more
