Someone special reminded me today that on this very day, 6 years ago Bert was sworn into the IPD and Ithaca community family! Just wanted to say thank you to all who made this possible, we couldn’t have done it without you all! Note: Bert was sooo excited he had to say a few words at the podium!

I had the privilege to attend the 2020 annual NYS Explosive Detection Canine conference and today I heard the most inspirational presentation by Megan Leavey, Marine Corps Veteran who served with military working K9 Rex. The team was wounded in the line of duty by an Improvised Explosive Device. If you have not already seen the film Megan Leavey, I highly recommend it. Thank you Megan and K9 Rex for your service, words cannot describe how thankful we are! Woof! And thank you to IPD for allowing me to attend

It’s official our new Police Chief ...Please welcome Chief Dennis Nayor to the Ithaca community and IPD ...We at IPD are genuinely thankful to be working under your wings Sir, thank you for all you have done for our department the day you got here, even prior to being the official Chief. To name a few, the building / patrol operations upgrades, Cool off with cops program, absolutely fantastic Sir! With all the challenges we face, you make them possible for improvement! A huge shout out THANK YOU to the Cornell University Police Department and CUPD K9 Unit for the invite to join in on the annual Vet School Open House K9 demos! As always we had a blast and thanks to City of Cortland Police K9 Officer / Handler Nate Moran for decoying K9 Bert during all the presentations! And Happy early retirement to CUPD K9 Rogue (top left picture) we hope nothing more than endless dawg bones, naps and even more play time, cowabunga dude We hope to see you all again next year! Woof! And one more shout out THANK YOU to IPD B-Line Patrol Officers who picked up K9 Bert’s slack while he was away from the office to go have fun at all these demos!
