Great story about a great man with a great message at the end. RIP Floyd
Another example of how Unions help people enter the middle class. Thank you to our veterans.
It's not called the Other Four-Year Degree’ for nothing. Registered Apprenticeships train American workers for safe, successful, and lifelong careers to REBUILD America. #NAW2020 #ApprenticeshipWeek #InfrastructureNow
School is back in session starting tomorrow for our 3rd year welders. All other students will be contacted this week. The next NYS DOT welding test is in February. JIW Iron Workers should contact us if they are interested. #happynewyear
Some rare photos showing the first stages of the construction of 7 World Trade Center. Circa late 1984. 7 World Trade Center was the final piece of the origina...l World Trade Center complex, with the 47 story skyscraper opening in 1987. Although 7 WTC wasn't part of the main complex, it was connected to it via 2 above ground pedestrian bridges as well as a small, outdoor public garden. It shared no architectural features with the rest of the complex too, although a steel structure like its neighbours, building 7 was covered top to toe in polished red granite with heavily tinted windows. 7 World Trade Center proved to be a tricky structure to engineer. The site on which the building was to be constructed was home to a large, 3 story tall Con-Edison substation, which provided power to the entire WTC complex and could not be moved, however the substation was only designed to support a structure roughly half the height building 7 would end up being. In order to get around this, special transfer columns were designed between floors 5 and 7 to accommodate the increased lateral loads of a taller structure. The framing for these transfer floors can be seen in some of these photos. 7 World Trade Center was also home to the main loading/shipping dock, which served the entire complex for deliveries and shipments.
"UBS Arena will always stand as a beacon for strength, hope, resilience, achievement and community. Relive Friday’s special event as the construction of the #Isles future home reached another important milestone.
Iron Workers Locals 40 and 361 are proud to help support NYC Helmets to Hardhats in their mission to help Military Veterans land true middle class careers in the Union Building Trades. The Iron Workers have sponsored 3 teams to participate in the inaugural NYC H2H softball tournament. We have a few open spots for any Iron Workers who are interested in playing. You can reply here or contact us at the school.
Thank you to Ernest Duran @ernduro and Amr Elghaziri @backtothefuture88 for making and delivering a new Iron Worker banner to our school. We appreciate the hard work you put in to help make our school better.
This article helps describe one of the greatest perks of being an Iron Worker. The joy of going home on a Friday evening after a hard week of work knowing you EARNED your spot in our Union.#thebestthingsinlifeareearned

In memory of our long time welding instructor John Doonan who passed away on August 24, 2020. This picture is Andy Purcell, John Doonan and Pete Nekiforos building the Marriott Marquis in 1983. Thank you John for teaching hundreds of men and women how to become professional welders and Iron Workers. Rest In Peace.

All Local 40 and 361 Iron Workers should read this notice and follow the directions if you need this class. Thank you.
NABTU’s Registered Apprenticeship model (aka ’The Other Four-Year Degree’) stacks up pretty nicely in comparison to the ’traditional’ 4-year college path Let’s let the facts speak for themselves.
Time to ReBuild our communities. We are ready, and Americans are waiting. Happy 4th! #InfrastructureNow #staysafe

As of today 4/7/20 we do not have any updates on when our recruitment will begin. We still intend to give out applications and are monitoring the situation weekly.
Some of our employers might be able to use this program to keep Iron Workers on the payroll and keep their doors open and ready to complete jobs when this pandemic is over.
The federal #CARESAct was signed into law March 27, 2020. The Act provides enhanced UI benefits and Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) for New Yorkers. Here...’s what you need to know. More information: http://labor.ny.gov/ui/cares-act.shtm Please share far and wide.
Thank you to everyone who wrote letters on behalf of protecting Union construction apprenticeship programs. The Department of Labor received 327,000 letters (the most in their history) and 325,000 of those letters were in support of the Union apprenticeship model. A model that has literally helped millions of families join the middle class.
The Benefits of Union Apprenticeship Programs 1. Employers and Unions work together to provide an Ivy League construction education to their apprentices/students (In NYC you are 7 times more likely to be killed working for a non union construction company than a Union company)... 2. Employers and Unions work together to provide 100% job placement for ALL of our apprentices/students (We have yet to see a College or University who can make that claim) 3. Employers and Unions work together to provide our apprentices health and pension benefits (95% of the people who enter our school had NO benefits in their previous employment. Many of them relied on public assistance for their health care and their families health care. This is a burden to the taxpayers who will be paying these costs for decades as today's non union workers will someday retire with little to no benefits from their employer) 4. Employers and Unions provide this education to our apprentices/students for FREE The Department of Labor should continue to support Union construction apprenticeship programs and the millions of middle class workers who are educated by them. These programs are a model for all other industries who are interested in starting apprenticeship programs.
Today, NABTU issued the following statement from President Sean McGarvey regarding the final IRAP rule from the US Department of Labor. https://bit.ly/2Q4QXyz

The cold hard truth hurts! I went through the same issues. I was always trying to figure out why I couldn’t stay with the program longer than a couple of week...s. I was asking all kinds of people how they figured it out, what they did to get past the hurdle, etc. Everybody gave me these fucking tips about how to stay in the fight longer. They told me to write down your goals and where you want to be 5 years from now, try to develop good habits, wake up early, eat healthy, all of that sort of shit! Yes, some of that shit worked for a couple of weeks and the second things got difficult, I found a way out, again and again and again! One thing motherfuckers don’t want to tell you about yourself is this- they don’t want to tell you the cold hard fucking truth! What do you think the fucking answer is? If you can’t stick with the program longer than two weeks, your grades continue to suffer, you continue to wake up late and then later, you take more days off, etc. The answer is very fucking clear- you are lazy, you are ok being mediocre and you simply don’t give a fuck! Once again, I was once this person until I realized that the idea of getting better sounded so much better than actually getting better. I had to take a step back and realize I was ok with being fat, making D’s and F’s in school, earning $1000/month- bottom line- I was ok with living a mediocre lifestyle and just getting by. So if in the back of your mind you are ok with it, you are truly never going to get better. Until you tell yourself the truth about what is going on that you are probably lazy and truly don’t want to get better, you are going to continue to stay right where you are. If this is you and you see people out there getting after it, do yourself a favor... don’t hate on those people who are out there taking no days off and want it like there is no tomorrow. You be you and let them be them! - David Goggins

IMPORTANT information regarding I.R.A.P. Please take a moment to read! NON UNION contractors are trying to eliminate UNIONS through laws that will weaken Apprenticeship Programs NON UNION contractors are supporting I.R.A.P.s which stand for Industry Recognized Apprenticeship Programs ... NON UNION contractors will control these programs themselves with very little oversight This will lead to them winning more bids against the good UNION contractors we work for and help eliminate our jobs and benefits BUT, there is something YOU can do to help us fight back Please take 5 minutes to click on either of the links below to write a comment supporting UNIONS. The Ironworkers International has created a form you can use here to submit a comment: https://saveironworkerapprenticeships.org/#/19 Or you can submit your own comment on this regulation here: https://www.regulations.gov/comment?D=ETA-2019-0005-0001 The cutoff date for submitting your emails is August 26th so please reply to this message to let us know you’ve submitted a comment. This will help us track our goal of 100% participation. The strength of our Union is everyone doing their part to make each of us better and stronger. SHARE AND FORWARD THIS TO YOUR FELLOW UNION BROTHER AND SISTERS!
How many of you have read the message from General President Eric Dean and sign the form? This is very important to our Apprenticeships and Unions. We need every member. Comment done (if you want), Local # and please share. http://www.ironworkers.org//stop-the-threat-to-union-appre
