Take your yard waste to our Yard Waste Site, now open from 7 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturdays at 1001 Monroe St. in Jamestown. You'll need your Yard Waste Sticker from the Customer Service Office, 92 Steele Street. One sticker is available free for each Solid Waste account.

The BPU will distribute covered garbage containers to Solid Waste customers, beginning May 10. It will take approximately four weeks to distribute all the containers. You can begin using the container when you receive it. There is no extra charge for the container - place all your garbage into the container on your normal garbage collection day. The recycling program is not changed - please continue to use your orange RFID recycling bin as usual to earn rebates on your Solid Waste bill. Garbage customers have asked the BPU over the past few years for containers as the City code requires that garbage is placed in containers.

The main break at McDaniel & Hunt Ave. near Kwik Fill has been repaired. Water was never shut down on Kenmore to make repairs, therefore, employees do not expect discolored water but, before doing laundry, check water clarity. Thanks!

We have a main break today on McDaniel at the Hunt Ave./Kenmore area in the City, near Kwik Fill. Water may be off on Kenmore between Hallock and McDaniel for a short time while a valve is replaced. Crews do not expect discolored water except in the area of Hunt Ave., McDaniel and Kenmore...and the Hunt Rd. Apartments. Check water clarity before doing laundry.

Behind on those BPU bills & worried about shut-offs? Call Customer Service at 661-1660 or stop in at 92 Steele Street. The representative you speak to will help you make a payment agreement, so that you can catch up little by little and avoid shut-off.

Never put fat, oil or grease down your drains. Pour cooled fats, oils or grease into a container and empty it into the trash. Before washing, use a paper napkin or towel to wipe fats, oils and grease from dishes and pans and throw them into the garbage. Use sink strainers to catch food waste. Putting these materials down the drain can cause sewer back-ups in your house - a mess to clean up and a terrible smell.

Recyclables for the week of December 14-18 are cardboard and boxboard. Be sure to flatten each box and place them in your orange RFID bin. We won't collect recyclables left on the ground. If you have overflow, flatten them and put them in another container marked R or Recycling - you can use a cardboard box to place them in if you need to do so. Save money on your Solid Waste bill by recycling in your orange bin!
