There will be arts and crafts workshops, Krav Maga, folk dancing, and a special Israel-themed Kabbalat Shabbat for families, with our very own Shira Averbuch. Today we witnessed the shameful result of weeks, months, years of stoking hatred and violence towards our cherished American democratic system. Our eyes cannot accept what, in the words of President-elect Biden, was an "assault on the most sacred of American undertakings: the doing of the people's business." At JCC Harlem, we abhor the violence in the streets of Washington and condemn the hate speech that led to riots and insurrection. We pray for the safety of our leaders ca...ught in the fray, and trust we will find a way through this moment together. https://www.nytimes.com//biden-calls-on-trump-to-go-on-nat

From our friends at LiveOnNY: 2020 has been a year filled with far too much darkness. At the same time, we’ve seen darkness and despair turned back by heroes determined to bring light. As we battle the December darkness by kindling our Chanukah candles and sharing gifts to celebrate the miracle of light, let’s chase away darkness all year round by bringing the light of #organdonation and giving the gift of life.
The JCC strongly condemns the burning and destruction of Black Lives Matter signs at the Asbury United Methodist Church and Metropolitan African Methodist Episc...opal Church in Washington, DC this weekend. White supremacist groups must not be allowed to flourish in this country. We thank all first responders and will heed the words of DC mayor Muriel Bowser, who stated yesterday, "We will continue to stand together strong and United to Love." See more
