Join us this Sunday for worship service!!
In the New Testament, the question answered by the apostles was never, "How do I know I'll go to heaven when I die?" Rather, the question they answered was, "No...w that Heaven has sent its Son to earth, how will I respond?" By shifting the focus of the gospel from the second question to the first, we've made it possible to become Christians without becoming disciples. By emphasizing the Good News for the afterlife, we minimize the Good News for this life. Not only has Jesus rescued us from the eternal consequences of our sins, he's rescued us from the grip that this world, its systems, and its thinking has on us. He does that by teaching us an entirely different and counterintuitive way of understanding and living in the world. He teaches us to live under his reign. It's the way of grace rather than performance, the way of rest rather than works, the way of peace rather than fear, the way of joy rather than despair, the way of love rather than selfishness. To walk this narrow way simply requires that we trust Jesus enough to obey him, to surrender our will to his, to let him take control of our lives. He's rescued us by welcoming us into his kingdom (shared from a friend's post)

Hope at All Times It is central in the biblical tradition that God’s love for his people should not be forgotten. It should remain with us in the present. When everything is dark, when we are surrounded by despairing voices, when we do not see any exits, then we can find salvation in a remembered love, a love that is not simply a wistful recollection of a bygone past but a living force that sustains us in the present. Through memory, love transcends the limits of time and offers hope at any moment of our lives. (Henri Nouwen)

Receive Jesus’ Love Jesus wants us to receive the love he offers. He wants nothing more than that we allow him to love us and enjoy that love. This is so hard since we always feel that we have to deserve the love offered to us. But Jesus wants to offer that love to us not because we have earned it, but because he has decided to love us independently of any effort on our side. Our own love for each other should flow from that first love that is given to us undeserved. (Henri Nouwen)
Lord Jesus Christ, you said that you are the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Help us not to stray from you, for you are the Way; Nor to distrust you, for you are the Truth; Nor to rest on any other than you, as you are the Life.... You have taught us what to believe, what to do, what to hope, and where to take our rest. Give us grace to follow you, the Way, to learn from you, the Truth, and live in you, the Life. Amen. Almighty and everlasting God, in Christ you have revealed your glory among the nations: Preserve the works of your mercy, that your Church throughout the world may persevere with steadfast faith in the confession of your Name;... through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. See more
