One thing I always do when photographing people is work the light with different angles. That’s almost always impossible when shooting wildlife where it’s more of a work with what you get type scenario. This Caribou (my first ever caribou encounter) was relaxed enough for me to get shots on both sides and essentially work the light. Normally I’m all about zooming or cropping in on my wild subjects, but something about the drama and mood of this entire scene felt worthy of shooting wider and letting your eyes take it all in.

One thing I underestimated about Alaska was how difficult it still was to see moose. I expected by the end of my trip I would be tired of photographing them but that wasn’t the case at all. This was the first decent encounter I had with an Alaskan moose with my camera in hand. Overall I only saw 14 moose in 10 days and only a couple of those were photo worthy encounters. Needless to say, I could never get sick of photographing Moose!

Photographing marine life was completely new for me and I was enjoying every second of it. I felt like I was living out an episode of Planet Earth with David Attenborough narrating in my head. These Harbor Seals were either extremely photo friendly or just too comfortable to move. Either way, I snapped a ton of photos of seals on my trip so stay tuned for more.
