Happy Elizabeth Cady Stanton Day! Elizabeth Cady Stanton wasn't from Jefferson County, but she had a friendship with Jefferson County native, Marietta Holley. Elizabeth was an advocate for women's rights, especially the right to vote. Elizabeth helped organize the first women's rights convention in Seneca Falls, NY in 1848. She did not live long enough to see women gain the right to vote nationally. Elizabeth died on October 26, 1902. Pictured is a letter written by Elizabeth Cady Stanton to Marietta Holley. The letter is part of the collection housed in the archives of the Jefferson County Historical Society museum.

Veterans Day is celebrated every year on November 11th. It was first known as Armistice day to commemorate the armistice that was signed between the Allies and Germans in France. It was signed at 5:45 a.m. but the cease fire was to take place at 11:00 a.m. It was the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month. The Board of Trustees, the staff, volunteers and members of the Jefferson County Historical Society, would like to wish all that served, a very Happy Veterans Day.

If you've ever visited the Jefferson County Historical Society Museum, you've probably had the opportunity to meet our unofficial mascot, Mr. Man. He is always eager to greet visitors that pass through the Victorian Gardens if he's not busy napping in the sunshine. Please show your support for Mr. Man and the Jefferson County SPCA.
