***6 Risks of working with a Cheap Roofing Contractor. Are you looking for a roofing contractor to repair or replace your roof? Are you trying to hire one based on price alone? If so, you’re probably trying to find the cheapest contractor in your area. Be warned, hiring a cheap one comes with multiple problems that will cause you headaches and stress. But what are these risks? 1. They might not be around when there’s a problem 2. You get the quality you pay for.... 3. You’ll pay more money in the long run. 4. Your roof wont live as long as it should 5. You won’t get the best warranty or if any. 6. They could possibly be insured but not for a roofing company. Now you know why you shouldn’t hire a cheap roofing contractor. Knowing these 6 risks helps you avoid wasting your hard-earned money on a roof that wont reach its full potential. Hire a roofing contractor that is fully qualified and you will not regret it! **For a FREE estimate from a qualified roofing company call us today! 315-453-ROOF (7663)

Are you having ice Dams like everyone else here in The great NY?! You are not alone. Below is a picture as to why this is happening. Your # 1 problem is lack of insulation in your home. *You didnt have ice backing up last year you say.... Well this is because last year the winter was nothing like this year has been thus far. The weather wasn’t as up and down, wasn’t as much snow at one time and etc. You do need to get this ice off, and figure a long time solution to fixing this problem. Which is to look why you are loosing so much heat. Always keep in mind, the ice melting underneath due to lack of insulation has no where to go, its trapped. Shingles are meant to shed water not hold it. The that results in leaking. Somerthing you don’t want! Please do not let these ruin your home. Have a safe week.

***We are completely blessed to have the clients we have had this 2020. With that being said, your patience is greatly appreciated as we finish up the roofing season. (In the next few months). We had stoped taking additional work a few months back due to our scedule already booking early December.... As the winter times approach we are able to install roofs but only during certain climates. This picture shows how many contracts we STILL have to do. We will get to you we PROMISE. We are currently working 70/80 hours a week making this possible. Shout out to the hard working crew we have. These men are the most amazing humans we’ve seen. Each day we are grateful for them. Thank you Lindsey crew. We love each and every one of you. Please remember, We couldn’t be is without you!!! Love, The Lindsley clan.

***So many different parts Involving the roof! We thought it would be nice for everyone to be able to see a diagram. Have a fabulous Thursday from all of us at J.Lindsley Roofing. :) *Ridge Board: A horizontal timber or metal resting at the peak of the roof. The rafters and trusses are connected to the ridge board for a cohesive framework. *Solid Decking: A composite decking made of solid materials. It resembles real wood and particularly strong and stable for bearing heavy ...load. *Felt Underlayment: It is a waterproofing layer made of regular felt, stacked above the solid decking board and then completely covered by the shingles or other roofing materials. *Shingles: Roof covering typically of flat and rectangular shapes and made of various materials such as slate, wood, flagstone, plastic, metal and composite materials. *Vent Pipe Flashing: An external installation on the roof that uses the vent pipe system to prevent water seeping in and create damage. *Skylight: A window installed on the roof or ceiling for the purpose of daylighting. *Chimney Flashing: A waterproofing seal installed at the intersection of the roof and chimney and used to prevent moisture penetration. *Collar Beam: The horizontal beam connecting two rafters that intersect at the ridge. *Rafter: One of a series of diagonal members of the truss that meet at the apex in order to support the roof deck and its loads. *Valley Flashing: A waterproofing seal installed along the roof’s valley line *Valley Underlayment: A waterproofing layer that protects the roof valleys from leaking. *Spaced Sheathing: Also called Skipped Decking, it refers to the installation of the flat panels by spaces apart and results to a ladder-type appearance. *Fascia: The sheath covering the ends of the rafters. *Lookout: The horizontal joist projecting in cantilever from the wall plate. *Rake: The inclined sides of a gable end. *Gutter: A duct for water discharge system for a building. *Downspout: The channel that transports rainwater from the gutter. *Splash Block: Found underneath the downspout and used to transport the rainwater from the gutter in a direction away from the house. *** Tuesdays Topic! Thinking about Pressure Washing your roof? Power Washing Inconsistencies... For one thing, a power washer’s output pressure has to be regulated accurately. If it is not, the pressure that is released could severely damage the materials on a roof. Nozzle size is also a factor. Also, when an improper nozzle is used, any spray that is released could affect the roof. Any kind of real spraying should be done from the top not the underneath area of a roof. When there are other features on a roof, such as vents, skylights, flashing, chimneys, solar panels and any other items, high pressure water could compromise the sealants on any one of those elements, plus create leaks. The water temperature could be a problem as well. Water that is too hot could damage any roofing parts, and if the angle of the spray coming towards the roof is incorrect, along with any spray repelled away from the roof, both types of spray could cause serious roof damage. Potential Roofing Problems from Pressure Washing Most any materials and components used on a roof are not constructed to endure pounding high water pressure, particularly those homes with older roofs and aging features. Consistent use of high water pressure can lead to a number of problems, such as: * Decreasing the longevity and life expectancy of roofing materials up to three times more than their actual life span * Breaking any bonding or adhesive between shingles * Damaging any underlying fabric of the roofing material. * Washing and stripping away the ceramic granules on shingles * Causing cracks or breaks in cement, clay, ceramic tiles, shakes, slate, and even metal * Dispersing moss, fungus and other organisms from one area of the roof to the entire expanse of the roof * Compromising any of these roofing issues due to the use of a pressure washer can eventually result in water leaks in a home’s interior. A 15-year-old roof has fewer granules to spare than a newer roof does. Older roofs are usually the ones that look like they could benefit most from a good cleaning. But keep in mind pressure washing an older roof is sending it to its grave all that much sooner. Some roofing companies claim to use a low-pressure wash with a special tip to clean roofing shingles. But even low pressure can damage shingles.
