photographers are preservationists by nature, freezing time click by click. this nyc street is also a work of preservation, calling back to its day of row houses and horse stables. though bordered by the business and busyness of manattan's 5th ave, it's a perfectly insulated time capsule, an ode to the value of preservation. seems as good a place as any to ask time to stand still.
away from rush hour on fifth avenue, horns and hurried passers-by passing by. just our quiet little slice of the park.
you know the dance moves are about to get serious when the bride ducks out to lace up her nikes!
The twin lens reflex. It's an old style of film camera that requires the photographer to look down at the camera from above to see the viewfinder. Though not its intent, this created something of a disconnect between photographer and subject. When looking into the lens, you wouldn't be made uneasy seeing the photographer staring right back at you from behind the camera. There are many ways that a photographer can try and create a space that allows you to forget yourself and commit to being vulnerable. But for all of our efforts, we continue to be humbled by the power of the photo booth curtain. I didn't stick around to see the faces of the people who came out of that booth, and I'm kind of glad I didn't. This is my half of the story.
Met this couple while traveling in Florence! Used a pair of road hazard lights from home depot for a bit of color
I love to make one last portrait at the end of the night. So settled in, not a care in the world about a wrinkle in a shirt or some well earned dirt on the bottom of a dress. Ears still buzzing from the music blasting just around the corner, but let's take a minute to soak it in and say here we are. Here we are, we made it.
