We were so busy proofreading our documents yesterday, that we didn’t have a chance to say, Happy National Proofreading Day!We were so busy proofreading our documents yesterday, that we didn’t have a chance to say, Happy National Proofreading Day!
In honor of this special day, we'd like to introduce some special people from Kaylie Jones Books: Patty B. is a teacher by day and the managing editor of Kaylie Jones Books by, well, day and night! Danie G. is the hardest-working social media manager we are blessed to know and love. ... Kristin I. is the one most likely to answer your emails, and the current public relations director. We know this is supposed to be about employees, but shout-out to a rock star employer or two, Kaylie Jones and Akashic Books. We love you!
When asked if there is something that she would definitely want to see changed in the world, Ms Brett says that if we felt the sufferings of others as our own, we could not rampage around the globe destroying the lives of vulnerable people and animals and destroying our own environment. ‘I think literature plays a role in creating empathy,’ she pronounces. Wonderful interview with Kaylie Jones Books, Laurel Brett. Check it out! https://literaryjuggernaut.org//literature-plays-a-role-i/
We are so grateful for all our editors, especially those at Akashic Books!
On this day in 1887, Anne Sullivan began working in the Keller household for a then, six-year-old Helen who was deaf and blind. Their story of perseverance was the subject of The Miracle Worker.

A beautiful review of Mckenzie Cassidy's novel #HereLiesAFather in the Southern Review of Books. Special thanks to Lisa K. Roeder for writing the kind of review every publisher dreams of receiving for a book that is so deeply loved by our team. How difficult in this time of pandemic and struggle to send a book out into the world, yet in this stormy sea we see lighthouses, like this review, that remind us why we do this work.
We’re grateful to reviewers who pay attention to indie presses. We need indie presses now more than ever.

Two stories on Oneida County, NY and how the struggle for justice and equality for the African American community there continues. I'm interviewed (in the second half). The pastor of Utica's Oldest Black church, Rev. Sharon Baugh tells the story of Hope Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church which is celebrating its 172 anniversary. You will also see historian Judith Wellman and Jan Demicis. @Deirdre Sinnott's novel THE THIRD MRS. GALWAY, about the abolitionist movement in Utica NY in 1835, will be published by Kaylie Jones Books in June 2021.
