Are our children being set up for failure? I know the answer, do you?

To the brother from Henry Street in Long Island, who recently told me that I only THINK that my students understand me, please take note; you might learn something: 1. I worked with your daughter before, and when I insisted that she learnt to spell the days of the week and the months of the year, your response was, "Mr. K., I don't think that's so important, because things have become so 'binary' now. You're quite confused, aren't you. 2. Recently, after your insistence that ...you were 'ready', I traveled from Brooklyn to Long Island, on three (3) consecutive Sundays to tutor your daughter, and you were not 'ready'. We had three cancellations (3 false starts). 3. On the fourth Sunday, when you were finally 'ready', I had to wait at your home while you went out to 'purchase' a notebook for your daughter to write in. Apparently, you didn't know that she needed one before. 4. Here is your lesson for today: There are 2 things in life you should expect NEVER to encounter, (A). Success at intimidating Kelwyn Suite, and (B). A blue donkey. NB: You are eternally more likely to encounter (B) above, than (A). You might also want to consider this: If you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem. You attempted to engage me in some sideways drama . . . I've already gone too vertical for that. I sincerely wish your daughter success in her academic endeavors, and I sincerely wish you success in the evolution of your consciousness. Peace! See more

Congratulations to my grade 6 student, K. Davis. A few months ago, you were really struggling with mathematics. Today, you are the ONLY SIXTH GRADER IN THE ENTIRE SCHOOL to make it to the Honor Roll. I've just returned from a very inspiring meeting with the youths. Today we ended our four-week Youth Business Leadership Program, a Small Business Boot Camp Series. Several of our youths presented their business plans, to the admiration and applause of all present. We are encouraging our youth to abandon the mindset of "gaining an education to go and work for someone else", to "gaining an education to become our own bosses and serve our communities". Pictures will be posted soon. . . We are more than 'keyboard warriors' . . . more than Facebook posters . . . we are involving ourselves within our communities, working with our most precious resources, . . our youth. Peace..
