We are reporting that a health care employee has tested positive. However, since Sunday evening, we’ve received negative tests on 146 other employees. Likewise, all test results received so far for health center residents are negative. Kendal at Ithaca is re-affirming its goals for stopping the spread of COVID 19 on the campus. They are: Perfect PPE use every time Decrease the turnaround time of testing results Screen aggressively and thoroughly... Proactively identify opportunities for improved process, practice education Communicate in a way that is transparent and useful to our residents, our staff, our board, and all stakeholders Support residents and staff to the very best of our ability We are working hard to achieve the highest level of infection prevention possible and once again begin to count our ‘covid-free’ days. October 20th, 2020 Kendal at Ithaca COVID Update from Laurie Mante A brief update today: No new positive cases identified in residents or staff. Our current totals:... 3 residents are positive. All are stable at this time. 6 staff positive. I want to share that our screening process is working to identify potential risk. I’d also like to share some of our wonderful staff stories during this time: Dining Services has continued to provide meals while having 12 staff furloughed! Natalie and her team have worked many, many extra hours so that resident meal delivery is not impacted. Thankfully, we will start to see staff return to work at the end of this week. Thank you to Dining Staff for getting it done during a very challenging staffing situation! Read more here: https://kai.kendal.org/ne/covid-update-for-october-20-2020/

All resident results received yesterday have been negative. However, we did receive one more positive test result for a staff member. Fortunately, we have not identified any high-risk interactions that this employee had with either residents or staff. Visit our website here for the facts, and some good news about faster testing methods we're implementing: https://kai.kendal.org/ne/covid-update-for-october-19-2020/

Update from Sunday, October 18 2020: Today we received two new positive diagnoses of staff. Both of these staff have been out of work for five days since they first exhibited symptoms, and both are at home and feeling better. We’ve received over 150 test results for staff in the last 24 hours so we are thankful there were no asymptomatic positives. We’ve also been receiving resident test results and have no new positives to report. We continue with an aggressive containm...ent strategy: Twice a week testing of all health center residents and all Kendal at Ithaca staff to identify asymptomatic cases quickly. Immediate isolation/quarantine and testing of any residents or staff who display symptoms. Complete closure of the campus to gatherings, activities, visitors and nonessential contractors or services. No communal dining or activities in the health center. Continued training and auditing on appropriate use of PPE among staff. See more

Two nursing home residents at Kendal at Ithaca tested positive today when we deployed our rapid testing capability on site. They are being moved to negative pressure rooms and receiving supportive care. The neighborhood in which they live is now under full contact and droplet precautions. All residents in assisted living have been tested and no one is positive. Likewise, we have received no new positive tests for staff since Tuesday. Staff are to be commended for their steadfast and caring service to our residents.
