On Saturday, April 3, 2021, Jevon Thomas Hey was suddenly called by God. He was 37. Jevon was born July 26, 1983. The youngest of three, he was precocious, sweet, loving, sensitive and funny. To everyone’s benefit, he kept these attributes throughout his life, bringing joy and fun to all who loved him. Spending time with family meant everything to him, and experiencing music - playing, singing, writing - was not only a way to connect with others, but to express and attempt to... heal himself. He wanted the world to hear his words through his music, and together with his brother, Justin, and cousins, Roger Hey and Joshua and Jordan Ripley, he did so. Their band, Hey’s Enterprises (aka Wooden Spoon Survivors), played locally and hosted their annual Hey Day event at Justin’s home. In addition to his musical talent, Jevon possessed an aptitude for everything mechanical. He would readily fix and tinker should anyone need help. Cars, motorcycles, the Steam Pageant - these were all interests he enjoyed. Appropriately, Jevon was employed by Coach and Equipment in Penn Yan. Encouraging Jett’s musical endeavors and walking trails with Melissa and the kids were favorite activities. As an infant Jevon was baptized by The Reverend Dr. Ed Kennedy, pastor of Rushville Congregational Church. He remained a member of the church his entire life. Jevon is survived by his son, Jett Justin Hey; parents, Jeff and Robin (Helfer) Hey; sister, Jenn and brother-in-law, Sean Freeston, Iron Station, N.C.; brother, Justin and sister-in-law, Delana (Brott) Hey; grandmother, Sonia (Flynn) Hey; grandfather, Larry Helfer; cherished companion and love of his life, Melissa Loftis and her five children; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews who will fondly remember Jevon’s wit, humor and devotion to family, always and forever. He is joined in Heaven by his uncle, Jim Hey; grandfather, Ken Hey; and most recently, grandmother, Margaret Lake. Having struggled with addiction both publicly and privately, Jevon’s family hopes his life will inspire others to find the courage to seek help. He was six years sober when he passed. A family service is planned for Saturday, April 10, 2021 at 2 p.m. at Rushville Congregational Church. Visitation will be prior to the service beginning at noon. Kenneth J. Perkins Funeral Home is assisting the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Habitat for Humanity of Ontario County, NY, 3040 Co Rd 10, Canandaigua, NY 14424 or online at https://ontariohabitat.org/donate. Please visit www.kenperkinsfuneralhome.com to send a message of condolence to Jevon’s family. ____________________________________________________
