Last month's 15th Annual Golf Tournament in support of NYU Winthrop Hospital's Cancer Center for Kids (CCFK) at the Wind Watch Golf & Country Club, was hosted b...y #FranklinSquare resident Michael C. Stroud, of Atlas Investigations, along with #GardenCity resident Rosemary Cinquemani, of Kerley, Walsh, Matera & Cinquemani, P.C. Guests enjoyed camaraderie on the course, followed by dinner, awards and prizes. The event was a tremendous success, raising over $54,000 to benefit the CCFK’s comprehensive and essential psychosocial programs which help facilitate a sense of well-being and improve the quality of life for those undergoing treatment for #childhoodcancer or #blooddisorders. ****Defense Verdict!**** Timothy Shelley, Esq. (Partner) obtained a defense verdict in a general liability case following a trial before a Queens County Jury. The plaintiff alleged that our client negligently operated his motor vehicle by failing to watch for pedestrians and bike riders when opening his drivers side door. The plaintiff, who was riding his bicycle home from work, made contact with our client’s car door and injured his back. As a result plaintiff underwent sp...inal fusion surgery and claimed to have permanent injury. Prior to trial, plaintiff demanded 2,875,000 to settle the case. Mr. Shelley successfully discredited the plaintiff by casting doubt on his contention that he had a light on the front of his bicycle at the time of the accident. After deliberating for 4 hours, the jury returned with a defense verdict. We would like to congratulate Timothy Shelley, Esq., on obtaining an outstanding result for our client. See more

Successfully Prevails in Summary Judgment Motion, Dismissing Slip and Fall Action Plaintiff slipped and fell on a sidewalk adjacent to premises owned by the Defendant, Winthrop University Hospital, on January 25, 2015. Plaintiff had parked his car nearby and was walking along the sidewalk to visit a family member in the hospital. Two days earlier, after a snowstorm, Winthrop retained a contractor for snow removal services. Plaintiff... claimed it was a two foot square of ice, in a slightly depressed portion of the sidewalk, that caused him to slip and fall, resulting in a rotator cuff tear requiring surgical repair. The Supreme Court, Suffolk County found that the Defendant, Winthrop University Hospital, established its prima facie entitlement to summary judgment by demonstrating that it did not create the icy condition, nor did it have notice of it, warranting the dismissal of the Complaint.
