Renee Watson is bringing us repetition in "This Body II"! Read the poem again. Listen to the repetition of "My Body," "and," and "My". Hear the rhythm in how she lists all the things she celebrates about her body. TRY THIS: Open the notes app in your phone or laptop and write a quick list poem of all the things you celebrate about your body. Try using "and" as repetition to keep the rhythm and flow. ... DO THIS: Are you brave enough to post it in the comments? We're waiting to read it! #KIPPAlbany #KIPPACCS #NationalPoetryMonth

Did you know that Robert Hayden turned to books rather than sports in his childhood because of his extreme near-sightedness?! What others thought to be a weakness became his greatest strength. Robert Hayden was born Asa Bundy Sheffey in the Paradise Valley neighborhood of Detroit. After graduating from high school in 1932, he attended Detroit City College (now Wayne State University) on scholarship and later earned a graduate degree in English literature from the University o...f Michigan. As a teaching fellow, he was the first Black faculty member in Michigan's English department. Hayden eventually became the first African American to be appointed as Consultant in Poetry to the Library of Congress. He published several works with international notoriety.
