We also like to buy fencing and panels if you have those things you don't need! My video on treats (the how, when, what, and why of treats and treat prep) has had to take a back seat to some more pressing work, so in the meantime, here's th...e message I want to spread... VARIETY!!! Think different sizes, textures, flavors, brands. Here's my treat pouch for one of Finn's outings, I have at minimum 6 types of food in here, I think there was more than that probably. I'm sure your dog loves that one treat you found, but using that for every type of training, every day, every new trick, your dog will quickly get bored and decide other things are more exciting. He's not being stubborn when he ignores you the next time you ask him to do something, he just isn't being paid well enough. We don't want to use the same treats for sit and down training at home and then for coming when called at the dog park. Sit and down at home is cheaper, easier behavior, and you can use those lower value treats (but you still want to use multiple types of treats to keep it interesting!). Coming when called is EXPENSIVE behavior and requires a higher paycheck, meaning high value food, and a lot of it (AND different types!). Imagine you were only ever given the same sandwich every single day. Every.single.day. BORING and we're just talking about a free sandwich! Now imagine your boss wanted to pay you for your work with the same boring sandwich you eat every day. What would the quality of your work look like? Would you quit? If I tried to give my dogs the same treat every day for everything I ask them to do, they'd quit on me. Variety is the spice of life. When you go to the pet store, stock up on at least 4 different types of treats and mix it up for your dog. I bet they will be MUCH more excited to work with you! #trainwithfood #dogtrainer #dogtraining #rewardbasedtraining #dogtrainingtips #usefood #varietyisthespiceoflife #dogsofinstagram #dogs See more
