Lafayette Metal and Glass's origin story illustrates the way in which the company has been intertwined with the fabric of NYC since 1899. Founded by three brothers of the Blumencranz Family, on Lafayette Street in Lower Manhattan, Lafayette originally serviced the shipping industry, including cargo and fleet vessels. As New York evolved, Lafayette evolved with it. In 1910, the company moved to Park Slope, Brooklyn. In the almost 90 years at this location, the company fulfill...ed the needs of New York as NYC expanded into bigger and better commercial buildings and retail spaces. in the last 10 Years, Lafayette has continued its growth to include three divisions. The new installations division and production divisions serve New York’s commercial constructions, general contractors, with all their architectural metal and glass planning, fabrication, and installations, while the service division provides property managers and real estate companies with repair and maintenance services. To today's incredible team, we thank you for helping achieve the amazing growth the company has seen and sustaining the company's continuous development.

Get to know Lafayette, one team member at a time, as Our People are Our Culture. Nicole Walsh has been #LafayetteMetalGlass's Submittal Coordinator for more than 3 years. In her role, Nicole supports both procurement and project management through her superb attention to detail. Getting further acquainted with Nicole, our team learned that she has a Master's Degree in Architecture and is a self-taught cook. "I didn't know how to even make rice when I got married and I taught... myself by following recipes. Now everyone enjoys my cooking!" The best part of the workday includes meeting with the PM Teams and other departments across the company. "These meetings help me understand each project on a deeper level and the impact that the various submittal status' have on projects as a whole." Nicole's most valuable lesson learned at Lafayette? "The importance of communication and kindness to build relationships with the teams and to take every opportunity presented to teach someone what you know for the betterment of all the projects and ultimately the whole team." Over the years, Nicole has helped with improvements that she's implemented. "I've coordinated the submittal status information into one document that's easily accessible for the entire PM department. Submittals are now easier to search for in the LMG database through descriptive filing, making the Search and Find tool more usable. I've also organized samples by PM for the Shop Staff making control samples and QC materials easily located."
