We'd like to introduce you to one of our Co-Leads on the five year "Creating Breastfeeding-Friendly Communities" grant funded by the NYSDOH. Meet Pamela Reiche...rt-Anderson, CLC, MA, RD, CDN. Pam works as a dietitian at Cohen Children's Medical Center. She says: "I became interested in breastfeeding promotion in order to help moms that have chosen to breastfeed find the support and resources they need to be able to meet their infant feeding goals. When I chose to breastfeed my son, I was unaware of where to look for support and resources in my community, and so I had a difficult time meeting my own breastfeeding goals. By being made aware of the community breastfeeding support options available to them, moms can both have their lactation questions and concerns answered and meet other breastfeeding moms to share their experiences. Moms that receive breastfeeding support and that are knowledgeable about the health benefits of breastfeeding for themselves and their infants are more likely to meet the American Academy of Pediatrics recommendations of exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months of life, and continued breastfeeding with the introduction of solid foods until 1 year. Breastfeeding can then continue for as long as it is mutually desired by mother and infant." We appreciate all the hard work and leadership Pam has put into this grant so far!
