Bone broth. This nutrient and vitamin packed broth has been gaining popularity in health circles in recent years. The collagen rich liquid can improve chronic inflammation, does wonders for skin, hair and nails, improves joint and bone health and is even known to boost metabolism. The magic happens when you simmer good quality grassfed beef bones in water. The best quality bone broth starts with naturally raised, pastured animals. Get them from a local Beef Cattle Farm. The ...vegetables and herbs add will vary depending on what I have on hand. The fresher the better! I prefer to use naturally grown produce from our own garden. Bone Broth 1 Deep pot full of Beef Bones (Meaty bones or Marrow bones) 2 or 3 onions quartered 6 carrots chopped 4 cloves garlic chopped 4-6 stalks celery cut in 2" pieces Spices of your choosing (thyme, sage, oregano, basil and rosemary are all good ones) (My wife does not like rosemary she says it tastes like soap, haha) Himalayan pink salt to taste Pepper to taste Add water until the bones and veggies are just covered Cover and simmer, try to keep it to a very gentle simmer you don’t want a rapid boil. Allow to simmer for 10 -12 hours keeping enough water to cover the bones. Cool then strain the broth. Use a fine metal mesh strainer Use to make soups. You can keep refrigerated for 3-5 days or freeze in plastic bowls then ziplock freezer bags for later use. See more

Almost 2 yrs ago and 20 degrees colder. Curtains are still like new, doing a wonderful job stopping rain and snow from blowing in the barn Another first great idea.
Out in the barn tonight

This is Suzy Q and Kathryn.. You may remember them over the summer when they won a trophy and ribbons at the Fair.. Well Kathryn is standing on a bale of hay because that calf is growing faster than Kathryn.. This is what kids need today... Farm life teaches so many things that are missing in todays world.
I needed a little humor.......
As the year comes closer to the end and just getting past our day of reflecting what we have to be thankful for, it is very difficult to see what the future year 2021 will bring. Sure, we Americans along with the rest of the world have been dealing with the Covid-19 virus. Effecting every aspect of every day of our lives. My area, Western New York State, has had a very dry year with 33% loss in our hay production. We had to buy hay from a friends farm.... Our retail sales for our Beef and Eggs have taken a huge hit compared to last years sales. I believe mostly due to the weekly free food drops in all the towns and schools. The financial burden is only a portion of the times of 2020 The last 3 weeks took the hardest toll on me mentally, loosing 3 people in my life. My 93 yr old Aunt, a very good friend most expectantly and now a friend and daughter of a very close neighbor. Not forgetting about my Uncle that passed away suddenly in August. This year has been challenging to say the least. We never know what the next day will bring. Strong as a bull today and gone the next. They say that's what life is all about. Every day is a test. Don't waste it.. Continue forward one day at a time----- Face your fears. Stay strong to yourself Live, live your dreams
Calves for sale. We have 3 young 1 month old calves. Also 6 12-18 month old bulls and 2 females
I am sharing this (8 yr old story) because it parallels the costs and time that goes into raising chickens for eggs. It also talks about the mind set of shoppers and neighbors and what they think of small farms. In order to provide the products people want, it can not be done at big box store prices. We have seen these same issues over the last 10 years of selling our eggs and farm products.
