Leica M9 ‘Titanium: Designed by Walter de’Silva For years Leica has dabbled with aerospace materials in the creation of their cameras. In 2010 Leica produced a run of 500 units of the M9 Titanium camera coupled with a matching 35/1.4 titanium lens. Unlike other commemorative cameras,... this camera and lens was constructed from solid titanium and was designed by Walter de Silva, head of Volkswagen Design Group. Exterior parts of the camera and lens were not shared with the production version of the M9 or the 35/1.4 ASPH Vr. III lens. The screw on vented lens hood was introduced with this kit along with a design-specific top and bottom plate that integrated with the body. All three surfaces of the camera share a common curvilinear design cue that stands out to this day. Presented here is a pristine example of the M9 Titanium set flanked by another common use of titanium, the performance road bicycle. On display at the Leica Store New York SoHo. See more
