Kindergarten teacher Jane Kim reviewed the Caldecott Honorwinning book Alma and How She Got Her Name by Juana Martinez-Neal as part of Judy Newman's Scholastic Book Club for teachers. Jane shared how she uses the book to explore naming traditions across cultures and help students make text-to-self connections by discussing name backgrounds. So proud of high school teachers Jillian Anderson and Wade Phillips who are presenting a dual language (English/American Sign Language) webinar today for The GLOBE Program. Their webinar "How to Develop a Good Research Question" will help teachers and students prepare for the 2021 GLOBE International Virtual Science Symposium. The Global Learning and Observations to Benefit the Environment (GLOBE) Program is an international science and education program that provides studen...ts and the public worldwide with the opportunity to participate in data collection and the scientific process, and contribute meaningfully to our understanding of the Earth system and global environment. GLOBE is sponsored by the U.S. National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) with support from the National Science Foundation (NSF), National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and Department of State. https://www.globe.gov//18-november-2021-international-virt

As you may know, the positivity rate of the COVID-19 spread is on the rise. With the upcoming holidays, public health experts are warning that people moving indoors and into gatherings will add to the increase. With that knowledge and your input, we have decided to continue with the Virtual Learning Plan for the 2nd Quarter (Monday, November 16th - Friday, January 29th). During this time, we will prepare to transition to the Hybrid Learning Plan for the 3rd quarter which will begin on Monday, February 1st.
