Ángel del Solar (they/he/she) focuses their activism on uplifting trans voices, especially those of people of color. He does a lot of community organizing, recording and archiving interviews with trans folks, educating, and making art that is driven by political movements. As part of this work, she is the co-founder of ENBY Spoken Histories, which documents stories by nonbinary, trans, 2Spirit and gender nonconforming people to archive and preserve community history. They are also the community & design manager of @TransLifeline. Follow Ángel's work: enbyspokenhistories.com/about and marinalabarthedelsolar.com. Painting by Ángel del Solar (okdood on IG).
These books reject the idea of the token gay person for each friendship group. Instead, they celebrate queer community in all its forms.
For the next few weeks, we will be sharing a glimpse of some of the queer love and community that can be found in our LGBTQuarantine Archive Project. Happy Bday Cass! is a photo from Cassandra S of their pandemic birthday cake. It was made when they "didn't have an oven and used the half box of cake mix we found in the cupboard and learned to bake in a cast iron and happened to have whipped cream and the blue frosting." It's the one of the tastiest displays of our community's resourcefulness submitted to the Project thus far! Do you have images, art or other creative works that are as full of love as this pandemic cake? Show us what LGBTQ love and community look like to you, and take part in queer history-making: gaycenter.org/lgbtquarantine. #lgbtquarantine #lgbtcenternycarchive

"In plain, confident prose, Washington deftly records the way the forces of loyalty pull the heartstrings in different directions."
"We must remember that the work required to make our communities truly equitable, affirming and safe goes beyond simply showing up as red or blue on an election map...we need to consider our vote as just the first step of realizing the change we want to see."
