April is National Volunteering Month! The pandemic has made a lot of us feel hopeless and isolated, but there are still so many ways you can give back virtually. What are some ways you have volunteered this year or in the past? Comment below!
Calling all LGBTQ+ youth leaders! Join us this Wednesday (4/7) from 3:30-4:30pm for a conversation-based workshop on giving back to our local communities through volunteerism. To register for this meeting visit https://bit.ly/3d1PGDa. #SLG #lgbtqyouth #youthleaders
We must turn our attention to climate change to continue protecting our community from the environmental changes that will affect LGBTQ+ youth who are struggling with homelessness.
Our April School Program campaign flyers focus on positive LGBTQ+ representation on TV today. This week we are highlighting Stephanie Beatriz, a bisexual actress who plays Rosa Diaz, a bisexual character on NBC's Brooklyn Nine-Nine. #lgbtqrepresentation
In a March School session, some students shared feelings of guilt for labeling themselves as an identity that they later realize didn’t fit. One of our role models reminded our youth that change is healthy, and it’s ok to explore what identities work, and do not work, for us.
In a unanimous vote by the Brooklyn Democratic Party, a quota set in 1938 stating an even number of men and women have to hold office was struck down. This removes a roadblock that had kept non-binary people from running for office, a major victory for LGBTQ+ representation!
The popular show Gossip Girl is being rebooted this year. The new version will feature openly queer characters, storylines, and performers including Jordan Alexander, Zion Moreno, and Jason Gotay. What show would you like to see get a reboot with an LGBTQ+ twist?
Come join us this Wednesday for the next Student 2 Student Chat Jan. 27th from 4-5pm in a discussion about labels and identities. To register click the link in the bio.
One of our students had a brilliant observation about why LGBTQ+ history is not taught in schools. So excited for the future of our community! #lgbtqyouth #lgbtqeducation #schoolsprogram
Come join us TOMORROW (1/22) at 4pm-5pm for our next Student Leadership Group meeting! We will be talking about a New Year and a New You meet our special guest Darra Gordon COO of GLAAD! To register visit https://bit.ly/SLG_Registration
As the amazing National Youth Poet Laureate Amanda Gorman said today, "There is always light. Only if we are brave enough to see it. There is always light. Only if we are brave enough to be it." Good luck to our new POTUS and VPOTUS in being the light our nation needs.
