This past Friday marked the 18th anniversary of Logos. Anniversaries are opportunities to reflect on the past, while orienting ourselves towards the future. On this anniversary, Logos founder and president Helio Fred Garcia took a moment to reflect on how far we have come in the past 18 years, unveil our refreshed vision and mission, and outline where we are going next. Check it out here: https://logosconsulting.net/the-next-18-years/
Helio Fred Garcia's latest book, "Words on Fire: The Power of Incendiary Language and How to Confront It" is out today. Words on Fire is about the power of communication to do great harm, and how civic leaders and engaged citizens can hold leaders accountable to prevent such harm. Garcia focuses on the language President Trump uses that conditions an audience to accept, condone, and commit violence against a targeted group, rival, or critics. Read Helio Fred Garcia's thoughtful reflection on privilege and persecution, and the role of allies in the larger work for racial justice. "Dr. King reminded us that that evil exists when good people do nothing in the face of injustice. Silence is complicity in the face of oppression. We will never reach a state when all lives matter until black lives matter too. For that to happen, we need to name the systemic oppression. And allies need to name our own white privilege. Publicly."
We are now entering the sixth month of the COVID-19 pandemic, and the third week of the civil unrest following the murder of George Floyd. Changes are happening all over the world. It is clear that we as a nation need to be adaptable and empathetic. Logos is here for you, and will continue to provide the personal touch our clients expect. Listen to Helio Fred Garcia's interview this weekend with Rev. Welton Gaddy of State of Belief on the global response to George Floyd's murder and the ways in which leaders' rhetoric can lead to violence.
Logos President and Global Crisis Advisor, Helio Fred Garcia was quoted in Security Management back in March on how to effectively respond to COVID-19. Although the day-to-day reality of COVID-19 has changed since then, the larger principles of how to respond effectively in this moment of crisis remains the same. Emotions are contagious. Panic is contagious. Fear is contagious. Anger is contagious, Garcia says. But comfort is also contagious. Expression of sympathy is also contagious. Expressions of empathy are also contagious. Expressions of kindness are also contagious. And so the challenge is to be direct, factually, after creating an emotionally safe connection.
