Some Wilderness training on this beautiful Sunday for all K9s

Long Island Search and Rescue 23.03.2021

Our trailing K9s are trained to -scent discriminate- which means they follow the trail of one specific human. To tell them who we want them to follow, we give them a -scent article- with the subject’s scent. The most common type is a clothing article, but we got creative with our scent articles and changed things up a bit. Swipe through to see what we used! 1. Sharpie 2. Nerf ball 3. A piece of string 4. A body, after being hugged by the subject. ... By creating a solid foundation and making it clear that whatever we target with them is what we want them to follow, our K9s easily took the scent from each article and completed their trails. What unique articles should we use next time? Comment below with some ideas! #LISAR #SAR #K9 #K9SAR #trailing #KocherMethod #INBTI #rescuedog #rescuedogrescuedog #workingdog #workingk9 #dogsofinstagram #thenoseknows #longisland #cutelablucy @letsgobos @ Long Island, NY

Check out Alex and Lucy #casting. In this component, the trail does not begin at their start point- they have to cast into it, so watch Lucy’s body language as soon as she picks up the scent- first a quick heads up followed by a full change of direction, and off she goes! #LISAR #SAR #K9 #K9SAR #K9training #mantrailing #sardog #workingdog #rescuedog #rescuedogrescuedog #rescuedogsofinstagram #INBTI #KocherMethod #cutelablucy

CPR training today with team members

Long Island Search and Rescue 12.11.2020

Amazing training today with all the mantrailing teams... Alex & K9 Lucy, Ed & K9 Buster, and Kim & K9 Ella all did 72 hour trails. They worked off a transfer from the original scent article and casted in to start their trails. There were 2 subjects at the end and they all correctly ID the correct subject. Maryah & K9 Quincy and Julio & K9 Bos did 40 hr aged trails also off of a transfer and started their trails with a Cast. Heidi & K9 Breezelle who is just starting her mantrailing career did a series of intensities.. Our oldie but goodie Retired Bella who is 10 years old ran an intensity with Heidi as well to prove she has still got it!.
