The Lustgarten Foundation and the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) recently announced two $300,000 career development awards for both early-career female and under-represented pancreatic cancer researchers to honor the lives of the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Congressman John Lewis. Through these awards, the Foundation and the AACR seek to help close the gap in the number of early-career women and under-represented scientists applying for and receiving funding to conduct research leading to a better understanding and treatment of pancreatic cancer. https://bit.ly/3i4QWr6

When a mild pain in her midsection, which could have easily been ignored, sent Linda to her doctor, she knew something was wrong. While her gastroenterologist initially thought she had an ulcer, Linda insisted on an endoscopic ultrasound, which revealed a tumor in her pancreas. Here are some important lessons from her experience that she wants you to know because #ItsAboutTime: 1. Never ignore your symptoms if they don’t disappear in the first couple of weeks.... 2. Do not be convinced by others that it will pass. 3. Above all, be your own advocate. If you feel things are not right, they probably aren’t. 4. Seek other medical opinions. 5. Don’t get discouraged. #ItsAboutTime you know what the signs and symptoms of pancreatic cancer are. Common symptoms of pancreatic cancer include: abdominal or mid-back pain, unexplained weight loss, jaundice, loss of appetite, indigestion, changes in stool and new-onset diabetes. These symptoms are often vague and generally initially attributed to other less serious and more common conditions. If you or a loved one is experiencing any of these symptoms, please visit your doctor or medical team to get them checked. As the COVID-19 pandemic began to hit hard earlier this year, researchers working on pancreatic cancer research at our dedicated labs scrambled to make sense of how to continue their life-saving research. We checked in with some of our researchers at our labs at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, Johns Hopkins Medicine, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute to see how they’ve adapted their labs and have continued their research during these challenging times.
