January means that our winter cleaning projects have commenced in the Mansion. This is the 1860s era walnut and oak floor of the Picture Gallery that normally is hidden under an area rug. It is nice to give it a good shine!

Every Labor Day we recognize the achievements and efforts of the American workforce. The laborers required to keep an estate the size of Lyndhurst operating properly was significant and legions of gardeners, cooks, servants, carpenters, stable-hands, and others worked at the property every day. More workers lived on the property than did family members! In this cropped historic photograph, we see a few of the laborers whose skills and craftsmanship helped to construct th...e expansion of Lyndhurst in 1864. The house as it is today wouldn’t exist without them! We also recognize the integral and essential workers of today who have been hard at it despite these challenging times. Happy Labor Day Everyone!
