One of the biggest questions we get almost daily is does my child really need dental X-rays? Dr Penny follows the AAPD guidelines for X-rays which states patients who have had decay or are at an increased risk for decay receive bitewing (we routinely call them check up) exam at 6-12 month intervals. The reason for this frequency is that decay in baby teeth when not caught quick enough can grow much faster than it does in adult teeth. Small simple cavities found early can t...ypically be treated with a simple filling or other restorative materials. If missed it puts the patient at risk for the possibility of needing a nerve treatment done to the tooth, routinely referred to as a baby root canal. Dr Penny has weighed the AAPD recommendations and always takes her patient safety into consideration and has chosen to utilize dental X-ray technology that emits the least amount of radiation possible. We have a new addition to the office! This external suction aids in reducing the aerosol that comes from dental equipment. Our main goal is to keep everyone safe.
