As a parent + a partner, tending to my own nervous system + mental health is a priority. It wasn’t always that way for me. Daily walks in nature is one way I cultivate that care for myself. It didn’t stop raining hard today. Ever. When I lived in Portland, the culture was to continue to do anything in the rain + in fact you could point out a tourist because they were carrying an umbrella. I maaaaay have gotten soft to wet soggy days after 10 years of not living in the PNW, b...ut I still went on my walk today. And I DEFINITELY went on my nature walk with my oversized umbrella. Portlanders judge away... at almost 42, I have long entered the stage of my life where I don’t think about what others are thinking. I stayed damn dry in my massive umbrella + got my time in nature w/ a little bit of movement. An added unexpected perk was that I felt a bit like Mary Poppins meets my inner child as I tromped through the soggy wet puddles on the trail. That was fun! Oh + the future IS accessible midwifery care. You can show your support to @chinatolliver + get yourself a T-shirt too.

I know there must be some people who pick up one book + read it cover to cover before reading the next. Right now I am... Listening to Braiding Sweetgrass anytime I’m in the car. I’ve read it, but I tend to desire multiple modes of integrating information, so now I’m listening to it... Continuing daily reading of the Bhagavad Gita, as part of my morning practice Revisiting reference books prior to a postpartum nutrition consultation later this week Re-reading two books about puberty health + poetry prior to a private mother/daughter session on the moon + menstruation Reading Emergent Strategy at night in bed, because.... @adriennemareebrown About to dig into two new yoga books on cultural appropriation + race based trauma, also because = never stop the work. A realization I had recently when thinking about my marriage + how that partnership evolves is this: There is almost nothing I do in life that is linear. I work in, move in, learn in, friend in, think in, love in circular/spiral/wheel/cyclical ways. Exhibited by this reading collection which is forever stop + go + never cover to cover. Why would I expect this relationship to be linear in nature? It is not. Accepting this has been huge. But for real, why did it take me almost 20 years to come to this realization about my marriage?!?!?!?
