I'm proud to present a Golden oldie from 1999 for the Christmas season! The "Doug Flutie Mater (Flutie Flakes and Beer)" It was my love song to the current man-crush I had. Doug Flutie. A man who over came his - "altitude" issues to elevate him to one of the most memorable and successful QBs in NFL lore! We remember that unmentionable season of 1999. It was the last year Randy Bailey and I released a "Bills Songs" CD. It started a play-off drought and a Bills Songs droug...ht of 18 years. Not just for me, but for our entire musician community, I am a Grammy District Advocate. Our purpose is to lobby Congress, the Senate and House of Representatives to pass bills that are essential to "gigging musicians" and people related to "gig" work. Much of the CARES Act and other legislative bills address many people in our society, but not "gigging" musicians. These people do not draw a steady paycheck and have not been receiving benefits most Americans have been entitle...d to. They need a voice! Attached below are Bills that the music industry needs YOUR help in passing. Please write your representative, Congressman and Senator and ask them to pass these bills!!! HELP MUSIC MAKERS SURVIVE Help Independent Tracks Succeed by harmonizing the tax treatment of music production with other already existing provisions. This small tax incentive will have a big impact to get indie artists back in the studio. SUPPORT THE HITS ACT H.R. 7886. The CARES Act provided unemployment to self-employed workers like music creators. But unintended consequences prevented mixed earners with both traditional and freelance income from getting their fair share. Correct this by passing the Mixed Earner Pandemic UnemploymentcAssistance Act. FIX UNEMPLOYMENT FOR GIG WORKERS H.R. 7691/S. 4442. The FPUC program, which adds $600 to the weekly unemploymentcbenefit, has been a lifeline in these unprecedented times. Congress should extend this program. EXTEND ENHANCED UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFITS. Minority-owned businesses were overlooked by the PPP and other SBA programs. Black music is a cornerstone of the music industry and Congress must ensure that Black-owned business, including studios, venues and labels, can get the support they need. Congress must provide dedicated funding for Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFIs) and Minority Depository Institutions (MDIs). BRING BACK MUSIC BUSINESSES Studios, venues and minority-owned businesses have been hit particularly hard. The next COVID bill should get support in the hands of businesses that need it the most. PROVIDE RELIEF FOR MINORITYOWNED SMALL BUSINESSES. The RESTART Act would give a boost to small and medium sized businesses that are struggling to survive the pandemic. With music venues and other music businesses still shuttered (and no reopening in sight), the RESTART Act is essential to keeping the music playing after the pandemic. PASS THE RESTART ACT H.R. 7481/S. 3814. Music has helped us through this pandemic. Now let’s make sure the people who create the music can survive and continue to bring music to our lives.
