A sacred space at the tip of the southern hemisphere defined by its vast sky, the Andes mountain range, and a softly lit suspended cloud-dome...Our short-listed entry for the Baha'i Temple in Chile. . HAPPY HOLIDAYS! Merry Christmas! Happy Hanukkah!

I like to think that living in the Berty houseFrog’s Pondis like looking out from inside a 15th c. Persian miniature painting: unfolding vistas, impossible perspectives, misalignments that only make sense in one moment. . . . #architecture #mbarchitecture #home #wainscott #easthampton #storyofarchitecture #construction #housedesign #persianminiature #miniaturepainting #interiordesign #interiors #gardendesign #pools photos @carbone

[...continued from previous post] What about this image chart, to be descriptive was so enigmatic that it convinced Michel to hire us? He told me so many years later, after the house was built, at one of their many lets just simply say dinners. For sure, considering the wine cellar we built, there was wine involved. Good wine, the vintage stuff. And of course, I understood. . These charts didn’t alter the design much, but gave it a rational filter through which he co...uld understand and engage with it and with us on his own terms. They appealed to his scientific mind. How else would it be with Michel? More importantly, he liked that we could see it that way too. At times, when we veered off its shared language, he would correct us. What a joy that was.Seriously! . In the thick of it, during construction, when things get complicated, the rules that we had set up (formal logic?) paid off. Every design detail defaulted to it non-controversially. And we all became participants in a shared construction process, building a three dimensional puzzle...Which is how it should beand its how everything followed. [See next post]. . None of this excludes the parallel impact of Marie-Eve and her thoughts on the project. But that is another story for another time. . . . . #architecture #mbarchitecture #home #wainscott #easthampton #storyofarchitecture #construction #architecturaldiagrams #designprocess #nonreferentialarchitecture See more

I cannot describe the feeling I get from this: the picture above is taken from nearly the identical position as the picture in the previous post this just occured to me. It shows Michel and Marie-Eve at the edge of their balcony-to-be during its construction it needed a 3’ tall I-beam that cantilevered out 32’. (You ask why, I will tell later.) I kind of goaded them to walk to that end; but M-E sitting down and Michel placing his hand on her shoulder, just happened. And I... snapped a shot. Michel had decided to hire us, when he saw our excel chart of the spaces of the house that appealed to his scientific mind and their meta-transformations into a crystalline geometry (I will post this next). Deeply, he knew these irregularities were unnecessary, and deeply he was aware that’s all that mattered. You will agree these thoughts take on a different meaning . Michel passed away a few years ago suddenly (even though it spanned a year). His memory is embedded in every piece of steel in this house in Wainscott, and will remain in my memories. This is the story of this architecture, and I will tell it in the next posts. . . . #architecture #mbarchitecture #wainscott #eastHampton #storyofarchitecture #home #construction #steel #engineering See more

A House in Wainscott, NY. . Interiority. Nowadays, my clients talk about the ‘womb’ like feeling of a room no more about a seamless inside / outside. The connection is now mediated, even tenuous. . I don’t think this a behavior consequence of social distancing, but a long-in-the-making inversion of modernism. More Freudian. #corbusier understood this. And others, like #olgiati. ... . . . . . . #architecture #mbarchitecture #interiorarchitecture #socialdistance #ocean #wainscott #easthampton #house #sagaponack #lecorbusier See more

In the same way as men cannot for long tolerate a sense of spiritual meaninglessness in their individual lives, so they cannot for long accept a society in which power, privilege, and property are not distributed according to some morally meaningful criteria. Irving Kristol . A walking path, with rest stations and pocket parks along the way, from a lemonade stand to a food truck to water stations, disperses density away from the village core, connects walkable spots through...out the village, giving us a more equitable and congenial town while shifting activity and consciousness towards public good... .
