Was finally able to coax the chickens outside for the first time! Being young adolescents, they are just learning how to forage and not be afraid of the great outdoors. This handsome cockerel is an American Erminette and his brother is the black and white chicken in the background. There are only a few hundred left in the world and I was lucky enough to find two breeders to help me start a breeding program on the farm. I’m very excited to have these guys on the farm along wi...th the Salmon Faverolles that you see in these pictures. There is one other type of breed coming onto the farm in early spring and you’ll have to wait until those chicks arrive to know what they are. It’s been a long summer. Full of failed crops due to drought and losing certain aspects of the business due to covid. So many things in transition. The one thing that hasn’t changed is my love for raising heritage breeds and the importance of making sure they continue to thrive. We adopted in 4 kune kune pigs, all a year old, into the farm. Jaimie is our orange/tan boar, Claire is our black and white sow and Fergus and Ian are the two black companion pigs. I will no longer be a vendor at Chamberlain Acres farmers market. I will however be a guest at Grove Park Farmers Market in Elmira tomorrow to check things out. I’ve been asked to do this market a few times by Muddy Fingers Farm and thought this would be a good time to do so. I will have my micro greens and duck eggs to start. Once again, a huge thank you to everyone who has supported me through so many transitions and this horrible drought. Come see me tomorrow from 3-6pm!

I love seeing this. A lot can be done in a very small space. So many people say you can’t farm on a 1/4 acre etc but you can. You can farm on even smaller spaces. You can feed a lot of people. You can make a huge difference for many with very little.

This may or may not be a true story...

We recently adopted in two adult guinea pigs that were dumped on the side of the road. A local farmer friend found the box and put out post looking for people to take them in. I decided to take the 3 pregnant sows but one died before we got them. The remaining two, I named Miss Clara and Miss Sophia. Well, Miss Clara gave birth this morning at 730am to 3 very healthy pups. Born with their fur, 20 teeth and both ears and eyes open, they are curious, chatty and adorable. Everyone has been enjoying local strawberries from @silverqueenfarm and fresh greens.
